Nylon (PA) filament is one of the most rewarding engineering materials — and one of the most punishing if you skip the basics. Follow this checklist and you'll print strong, wear-resistant parts instead of spaghetti.

The #1 rule: dry it, then keep it dry

Nylon absorbs moisture aggressively — a wet spool prints with bubbles, stringing and weak, brittle layers. Dry 8 h at 80 °C before printing (VOXFIL ships vacuum-sealed, so new spools are ready). Feed from a dry box or reseal immediately after each session.

Adhesion without the fight

  • Use a glue stick on PEI/smooth plates — nylon bonds aggressively to bare PEI
  • Print a brim on tall or small-footprint parts
  • Bed at 60–80 °C; too hot causes elephant's foot, too cold causes lifting

Fixing the three classic nylon failures

  1. Bubbles/hissing → wet filament. Dry 8 h at 80 °C, don't skip.
  2. Stringing → dry + lower cooling + tune retraction 1–2 mm.
  3. Warping/cracking → raise chamber temp, slow down, add a brim.

Nylon vs nylon-CF

Plain PA is tough and fatigue-proof — ideal for gears and living hinges. PA-CF adds stiffness and dimensional stability for drone frames and brackets. Same drying discipline, different end use.
