Glow-in-the-dark filament (typically PLA with strontium aluminate pigments) creates parts that glow for hours after light exposure. Here's what to know before you buy.

How it works

Strontium aluminate phosphors absorb UV/blue light and re-emit it slowly — that's the glow. Quality varies wildly: cheap glow filament barely charges and fades fast; good material glows for hours.

Print settings

  • Nozzle: 200–220 °C (lower end reduces pigment burn)
  • Bed: 50–60 °C, standard PLA profile
  • Speed: 40–80 mm/s; thicker walls hold more pigment
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm is a good balance

⚠️ Nozzle wear

Phosphor particles are abrasive. A brass nozzle can wear visibly within a few spools — use a hardened nozzle for glow material, especially in volume.

Charging tips

Charge with direct sunlight or UV light for 10–30 minutes. Thick, dense parts glow longer. A clear topcoat (spray varnish) preserves both glow and surface.
