Reselling 3D filament is a healthy margin business — if you source smart. This guide covers the five decisions that determine whether your filament line makes money.

1. Margin math before brand selection

Work backwards: target retail price − channel costs − freight − duties = your buy price. At $19.99 retail, a reseller typically needs the landed cost at or below $9–11/kg. That's why factory-direct sourcing (not distributor tiers) matters.

2. Start with 4–6 SKUs, not 40

The 80/20 rule is brutal in filament: PLA, PLA+, PETG and ABS cover most sales. Add ASA and TPU, then expand by customer requests — inventory that sits is margin that died.

3. Vetting checklist for suppliers

  • Factory audit or video tour + line count
  • ±0.02 mm inline-measured tolerance in writing
  • Batch QC reports and ΔE color data
  • MOQ flexibility (10 kg test colors!)
  • Private label from 100 kg with your packaging

4. MOQ and cash-flow strategy

Don't container-load a new brand. Order 10–50 kg, validate sell-through, then scale. A good partner lets you grow stepwise — VOXFIL's MOQ starts at 10 kg and our price list shows volume tiers transparently.

5. Channel fit

Amazon? Marketplace listings need barcodes, listing content and returns management. Shopify/own store? Better margins, harder traffic. B2B distribution? Longest cycle, stickiest revenue. Pick one channel first, master it, then expand.

VOXFIL's private label program was built for exactly this — samples in 72 hours, your brand on the spool, QC reports in the box.
