Standards sound dry until a customs delay or a liability question makes them urgent. Here's the buyer's guide to 3D printing standards.

Test method standards

  • ISO 527 / ASTM D638 — tensile strength
  • ISO 178 / ASTM D790 — flexural modulus
  • ISO 75 — heat deflection temperature (HDT)
  • ISO 179 / ASTM D256 — impact (Charpy/Izod)

Product compliance standards

  • RoHS: restricts hazardous substances — required for EU sales of electronics-adjacent products
  • CE: EU conformity mark; covers most consumer products
  • REACH: EU chemicals regulation — filament must be registered-compliant
  • FDA food-contact: relevant for PETG used with food (always validate finished parts)

Why buyers should care

Reselling uncertified filament in the EU is a compliance risk. Always request the certificate numbers — not just the logo. VOXFIL ships certificates with bulk orders and our datasheets list every standard used.
